Tourist Book Report #30- Ari Marcopoulos's Directory is a 1200 page tome. Measuring 21.6 x 27.6 x 5.5cm, the soft cover book features hundreds of photographs. Strangely, many of the images are aimless, boring, shitty and unmemorable because they’re overwhelmingly pedestrian…but it’s great book. Sounds fucked up, doesn’t it? Well, like a telephone directory, Marcopoulos’s Directory is printed on trade paperback stock and features a ton of filler but like a real Directory you have to search for what you like and take peace in what floats your boat. As such, it’s a bold book. It may be unintentional but it’s almost like a stinging commentary on the often voidness of the ‘snap shot’ genre of photography. Directory is a co-release by Nieves and Rizzoli.
